Emergency Fogging

In emergency situations such as those where a confirmed infection has occurred in your facility, emergency fogging is likely necessary. Unlike a detailed disinfection, which only disinfects surfaces, an emergency fogging procedure will disinfect the air and all the cracks and crevices present in the space most thoroughly.

What is fogging, exactly? In the cleaning industry, fogging refers to the administration of a disinfectant by transforming liquid disinfectant into droplets of various sizes. Fogging requires special equipment and must be done in accordance with strict guidelines that promote effectiveness while keeping the equipment operators safe. Fogging helps distribute disinfectant over a larger surface area in a shorter amount of time while giving the operator more control in achieving a uniform distribution.

Fogging (as it is currently used in the industry) refers specifically to when the equipment used produces droplets that are anywhere between 10 to 100 Microns. Ultra Low Volume (ULV) foggers are capable of creating droplets that are between 10 to 30 Microns, which resemble what we can see as “mist”. These are the industry’s preferred type of foggers for commercial use, due to the fact that they provide the operators more flexibility to achieve uniform distribution of different amounts of disinfectant. These are also the foggers we use.

How We Disinfect

An overview of the disinfection process

Pre Clean Icon

Pre-Clean

A thorough cleaning is always step one when it comes to ensuring that disinfecting agents are not prevented from properly interacting with surfaces by dust and debris.

Disinfection Icon

Disinfection

Once all surfaces have been cleaned, a manual disinfection of all high-contact or hidden surfaces (such as the face-down receiver of a traditional phone) follows.

Fogging icon

Fogging

With all regular surfaces cleaned and disinfected, fogging can take place. Fogging disinfects the air and thoroughly covers all surfaces with disinfectant.

Clock icon

Safety Period

A brief waiting period must be observed in order to give the disinfectant time to work on all surfaces and fully disinfect them. The space is only disinfected and safe once this period is over!

We Follow Health Canada and CDC Guidelines for Cleaning and Disinfection

We monitor best practices for cleaning and disinfection in Canada. We’ve also partnered up with ECOLAB to ensure only industry-leading chemicals and application processes are utilized.

What we've learned is that the more frequently a workplace is cleaned, disinfected, and ventilated, the less likely it is to harbour harmful pathogens, including ones resulting in COVID.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), only a copper surface has an anti-viral effect over time. There are NO known chemicals with an impact beyond the immediate time after it has been applied. (See here

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Deep Disinfection right for my business or should I just stick to Detailed Disinfection?

In our opinion, there are some specific situations when the addition of the Fogging component offered by our Deep Disinfection is called for. Think about painting: you would use a brush in some areas and spray in others.

For example, if you are in a situation where there has been confirmed or suspected infections in your workplace, or if you are unsure whether the building has been exposed — then it would be a good idea to go for a Deep Disinfection that includes fogging.

Additionally, we recommend you speak to your cleaning company, review their processes to ensure they follow a complete disinfection process periodically and according to your needs.

How does Arelli use Fogging in Deep Disinfection?

Fogging is done with electro-static sprayers and ULV foggers depending on the surface and service level you choose.

How safe are the chemicals used for the procedure?

Any chemical we use would have a Drug Identification Number (DIN) with Health Canada with approved administration routes for a variety of spaces including Domestic buildings, Food Premises, Hospitals and Health Care Facilities, Institutional and Industrial buildings.

Can disinfection help protect our facilities against COVID-19?

We diligently follow Health Canada, The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and have partnered with ECOLAB, a leading manufacturer of state of the art chemicals to battle COVID-19 and its variants.  Knowing that there are no chemicals with residual impact on COVID (See Here) , the effectiveness of any such service is limited to the immediate time after it is performed and until it is contaminated again.

Is this service safe for pets and plants?

Any disinfectant we use will be non-toxic and safe to use around plants and animals when used in the right concentrations and applied properly.

Is this service safe for office electronics, metal and wood Surfaces, upholstery or other common surfaces in various buildings?

Any disinfectant we use is non-harmful to surfaces and office electronics commonly found in commercial, medical and industrial buildings when used in right concentrations and applied properly.

Where are these types of services being used today?

Office buildings and Medical Clinics, Daycares and Schools, Athletic Facilities and Gyms, Restaurants and Grocery Markets, Trains, Planes and Buses, Hotels, Conference Centres, and all other commercial buildings.

How long does it take to perform this service and how quickly can I use the facility afterwards?
